About this document
Australia's social, economic and environmental well being is dependent on how well we manage our land, water, marine and biological natural resources.
We must ensure that Australia's natural resources are sustainably managed if we are to
- continue to be a major agricultural producer and exporter,
- maintain the health of our environment, and
- conserve our native species and ecological communities.
The Australian Government is working cooperatively with State and Territory Governments and in partnership with regional bodies, community groups, industry and local governments across the country to encourage the sustainable management of our natural resources. Integrated regional plans and investment strategies provide the means for identifying and coordinating actions to address priority issues in individual regions.
The Australian Government is supporting regional actions through the
- Natural Heritage Trust and
- National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality
This overview summarises the programs and activites that the Australian Government is undertaking to ensure Australia's environmental future.
