The National Land & Water Resources Audit delivered a comprehensive national appraisal of Australia's natural resource base during the period 1997 - 2002. In its second phase (2002 - 2008), the Audit was tasked by the Natural Heritage Trust Ministerial Board with developing nationally agreed natural resource indicators, information standards and information infrastructure and undertaking specific natural resource assessments.
This report summarises key learnings from the Audit experience related to
- better information, better reporting and better capabilities for assessment and analysis
- strengthening a national cooperative approach and partnership and
- building enduring systems
