Northern Territory Joint Steering Committee
The Australian and Northern Territory Governments established a Joint Steering Committee in 2003 to oversee the delivery of the Natural Heritage Trust and the National Action Plan on Salinity and Water Quality in the Northern Territory.
The Joint Steering Committee meets on a quarterly basis.
Role
The role of the Committee includes:
- developing principles and criteria to guide investment decision making
- developing common advice to Ministers on accreditation of the draft Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan and any revisions to it
- prioritising National Action Plan and Trust investments in consultation with the Natural Resource Management Board (NT) Inc.
- recommending to Ministers three-year rolling investment strategies prepared by the Natural Resource Management Board (NT) Inc
- overseeing the management of Trust and National Action Plan funds, including approving the release of funds for approved investments
- reporting annually to the Australian and Northern Territory Government Ministers on decisions to date
- reporting annually to the NRM Ministerial Council on the implementation of the Trust and the National Action Plan.
Meeting Communiqués
The Steering Committee resolved to release a Communiqué after each of its quarterly meetings to improve community awareness and understanding of its activities, commencing in December 2006.

Northern Territory
- Executive Director, Resource Management Natural Resources Division
Department of Natural Resources, Environment and the Arts
- Director of the Crops, Forestry and Horticulture Division
Department of Regional Development, Primary Industry, Fisheries and Resources
The Chair of the Natural Resource Management Board (NT) Inc. and a nominee of the Local Government Association of the NT have observer status on the Committee.
