Box Gum Grassy Woodland
Box gum grassy woodland was the first ecological community to be targeted by the Environmental Stewardship Program. It was the first community considered because of its extensive distribution across three States, its presence today predominantly on private land, and the ability of a large number of land managers to manage threats to the community through on-farm management.
Five funding rounds were conducted in 2008-09 and 2009-10. From these rounds 201 land managers were contracted to manage box gum grassy woodland on their land and will receive funding from the Australian Government for up to 15 years. These contracts will result in the protection of close to 27,000 hectares of this critically endangered ecological community.
