Caring for our Country business plans
Caring for our Country is an Australian Government initiative that seeks to achieve an environment that is healthier, better protected, well managed and resilient, and provides essential ecosystem services in a changing climate.
Caring for our Country is based on measurable strategic outcomes at a national scale for the medium-term (five-year) in the context of longer term (20-year) projections. These are both published in the Caring for our Country Outcomes 2008 - 2013.
Annual business plans set out the targets for investment in each year to ensure we stay on track to achieving the government's five-year Caring for our Country outcomes.
Business plans provide guidance to potential applicants on the types of proposals which the Australian Government sought to fund to address these targets.

Caring for our Country Business Plan 2011-12
Aim of the 2011–12 business plan
The 2011–12 business plan built upon the foundations set by previous business plans. This business plan identified the targets for investment in 2011-12 and 2012-13. These targets encouraged proposals to ensure we continue to deliver against the Government's strategic objectives set out in the document Caring for our Country Outcomes 2008-2013.
The 2011–12 business plan indicated the types of proposals the Australian Government is interested in funding to address its strategic objectives.
Annual business plans are subject to continual improvement. When developing them for Caring for our Country, we seek stakeholder feedback to identify what works, improve what doesn't and give appropriate guidance to potential applicants.
In response to feedback and to ensure ongoing progress against the five-year outcomes, the majority of targets from the previous business plan were retained. Some were revised to allow more flexibility and greater potential for investment.
Under this business plan we sought one and two year proposals which addressed emerging challenges and continuing problems across the national priorities.
Proposals were not sought in relation to some targets where significant investment had already occurred and on-ground works were continuing, as these targets were already delivering against the Caring of our Country outcomes. For example, there was no call in this business plan for projects to address cane toads and camels.
This business plan maintained a range of investment approaches to allow Caring for our Country to continue to meet the needs of the community and to help ensure that we remain on track to achieve the five-year outcomes.

Caring for our Country Business Plan 2010-11
Aim of the 2010–11 business plan
This business plan set out the targets for investment in 2010–11 and following years to ensure we stay on track to achieving the government's five-year Caring for our Country outcomes.
The business plan provided guidance to potential applicants on the types of proposals which the Australian Government was seeking to fund to address these targets.
The 2010–11 business plan continued to build on the government's investment of more than $455 million to individuals and groups under the 2009–10 business plan for work to meet Caring for our Country's outcomes.
In response to feedback received, some targets were revised and there was added flexibility around the investment approach used for some targets.
We retained many of the targets from the previous business plan because there remained a strong case for continued investment in these areas. We also incorporated some new targets to reflect changes to the government's investment focus in 2010–11.
In addition, the business plan took account of Caring for our Country investment which had already occurred. Consequently, no proposals were sought in 2010–11 for a small number of 2009–10 targets where substantial funding had previously been announced.
For example, there was no call in this business plan for projects to address impacts of particular invasive species such as cane toads, exotic rodents on small islands and camels, all of which received substantial support through the 2009–10 business plan.
The 2010–11 business plan outlined a range of investment approaches to more effectively meet the needs of stakeholders and to help ensure that we achieve the Caring for our Country five-year outcomes.

Caring for our Country Business Plan 2009-10
Aim of the 2009–10 Business Plan
The aim of the 2009-10 business plan was to seek proposals that provided the Australian Government with the opportunity to invest in a suite of projects. These were projects that would best deliver the effective, efficient and timely results that would enable the achievement of the Caring for our Country outcomes.
The Caring for our Country outcomes identify the results that the Australian Government is aiming to achieve in the first five years, while the targets provide greater detail about the actions and, in some cases, the places where the changes are being sought.
For information about Caring for our Country outcomes, see:
In 2009-10, the Australian Government invited interested parties to submit investment proposals for projects that contributed to the achievement of Caring for our Country targets.
