Integrated natural resource management (NRM) is based on accredited regional plans and their associated investment strategies. A regional NRM plan identifies the region's NRM targets and the means for achieving these.
Successful NRM outcomes are based on the following factors:
- an integrated regional NRM plan is in place
- all interested groups and community members are engaged in the decision making process
- the NRM plan is in line with broader local, state and national NRM initiatives
- there is a sustained commitment to the stated NRM objectives and
- there is ongoing management, monitoring and evaluation of the NRM activities

Get involved
The long term success of regional NRM plans is dependent on an informed and committed local community. There are a number of ways individuals, communities and interested groups can become involved in NRM in their region. Opportunities can range from events such as community workshops and conferences, to participating in online discussion forums and joining or forming a local community group that focuses on sustainable resource use or biodiversity conservation.
