Funded projects

Caring for our Country Business Plan 2010-11

If you have received funding

Funding deeds

When granted funding, you are required to sign an Australian Government Funding Deed - either a short form deed or a head deed, depending on the nature of the project. The standard Caring for our Country Funding Deeds set out the conditions of funding specific to your project. The appropriate Funding Deed is populated with agreed project details and milestones. These deed templates are provided as an example of the standard conditions in these deeds.

Your funding deed should clearly identify the expectations that the Australian Government has regarding your project. There are a number of milestones that must be met in order to meet these contractual obligations. These conditions are broadly outlined below. For further detail, check your funding deed as requirements vary between projects.

Your project officer in the Australian Government

If you have an existing funding deed, you will have a designated Australian Government project officer. If you are unsure or have questions about your obligations or reporting requirements, you should discuss this with your project officer.

If you are unsure who your project officer is contact 1800 552 008.

Monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement

Successful grantees are required to meet high standards of accountability and provide performance information on the results of their project activities. Projects which have approved funding of less than $80 000 are required to develop and provide a program logic. Projects which have approved funding over $80 000 in value are required to develop and implement a monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement (MERI) plan.

Communication activities

If you receive funding through the Caring for our Country business plan 2010-11 you must incorporate communication activities into your project. Communications activities need to be costed as part of the MERI budget for your project.

Successful proponents from the 2010-11 business plan with projects more than $80 000 are required to develop a communication plan outlining activities and products to promote the development of the project and communicate its key milestones and outcomes.

Projects under $80 000 should still plan for communications activities that are proportionate to the size of the project.

Acknowledgement

You are required to acknowledge your grant provided in accordance with the guidelines.

Planning approvals

The Australian Government requires that all grantees obtain necessary planning approvals for their project, including the permission of the land owner or land manager for any project on private or public land, prior to the commencement of their project.

Insurance

Successful proponents will not be able to receive funding unless they have public liability insurance for the period of the grant.

Project financial reporting and acquittal

One of your most important obligations as a recipient of public monies is to report on progress and acquit the funds you have received. The timing for project reporting (including financial reporting) is specified in the funding deed between you and the Australian Government.

Taxation and GST

Grants are subject to normal taxation treatment and no special arrangements apply. All applications for funding will be GST exclusive. Payment of GST on the grant is dependant on the organisation's GST status.

Reporting of successful grants

You need to be aware that Commonwealth policy requires the Australian Government to publish information about successful grantees on the Caring for our Country website. Published information may include but is not limited to:

By accepting funding, the grantee consents to the publication of the above information by the Australian Government. All project information will be handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988.
